The R.E. Lee Camp # 726 is located in Alexandria, Virginia and is a member of the National and the Virginia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV).  First and foremost, we are patriotic Americans—we proudly follow the laws and Constitution of the United States of America. We profoundly reject racism in all its forms, and we denounce the use of Confederate images or leaders as symbols of white supremacy or bigotry.  Slavery has always been a fundamentally evil institution, and hate has no place in America.  The Constitutionality of secession was very much in question until 1865, and since that time, the SCV and its predecessor, the United Confederate Veterans, have not, and will never advocate for a second secession from these United States.

The R.E. Lee Camp was founded on the 17th day of February 1927, and since that time, the R.E. Lee Camp has remained committed to being good members of the Alexandria community while also preserving Southern Heritage.  SCV members are male descendants of Confederate soldiers and sailors; however, associate membership is open to all people.

Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to ensuring that the history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.  Towards that end, Stephen Dill Lee gave the following charge to the SCV:  To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication for the cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier’s good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of the principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations.

BENEFITS OF JOINING R.E. LEE CAMP # 726

Your membership and involvement in the R.E. Lee Camp makes a difference preserving your ancestor’s legacy and the story of the South. The R.E. Lee Camp is one of the largest and most active camps in the SCV.  We meet or have some activity once a month, generally in the Alexandria area.  Activities include, but are not limited to:  marching in Alexandria’s George Washington Birthday Parade, dinner meetings with speakers discussion some aspect of Civil War history, historic reenactments, a quarterly book club, field trips to local historic sites, adopt-a-block cleanups, wreath laying, grave marking, and sometimes we just like a good mint juleps and cigar party.  Needless to say, there is no shortage of opportunity to network with like-minded Southrons sharing common ancestral bonds and historical interests.

Our goals are to have fun, provide a service component to the community, and most of all, honor our shared Confederate history.

More information can be found at www.scv.org.  Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either lineal or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for full membership is 12, but there is no minimum for Cadet membership. Go to the “How to Join” tab for more specific information.
