Annual R.E. Lee Banquet at BHCC

The 85th R.E. Lee Banquet celebrating General Lee’s 210th birthday was held on Thursday January 19th 2017 at Belle Haven Country Club was a great success with over 50 members and guests in attendance.

Youth attendee, Lucian Brucker said, “I enjoyed every aspect of the evening from beginning to the end.”

Ernie Coggins, Trudy Tanzillo and her grandson Lucian Brucker with Cmdr. Becker

Despite Cmdr. Becker’s surgery earlier in the week he was able to persevere and lead the event to its successful conclusion. The Banquet began with the acknowledgment of our military veterans, prayer, the singing of Dixie and The Bonnie Blue Flag followed by dinner with a cash bar for adult beverages. The atmosphere in the banquet hall was warm and inviting with wonderful people enjoying each other’s company.

We inducted Jonathan Babington-Heina, and installed him as our camp’s color sergeant. Our speaker, Stephen McLeod, Director of Library Programs at Mount Vernon, provided us with his excellent presentation on the topic of What it was like at Mount Vernon during the Civil War. The evening concluded with John Lumsden delivering Lee’s General Order No. 9 and our benediction by our chaplain the Rev. John Roddy.

The 84th R.E. Lee Banquet, January 19th 2016

Our celebration of Gen. Lee’s 209th birthday at Belle Haven Country Club, Alexandria was another home run. Our speaker, Eric Buckland, gave a riveting slide show and talk on Mosby’s Rangers and the gallant men who served during the three fights Mosby had with Cole’s Cavalry in JAN-FEB 1864. Eric’s books include: Mosby’s Keydet Rangers, Mosby Men, Mosby Men II, Mosby Men III, and Mosby Men IV, which cover a vast number of the intimate stories of those who fought and led valiantly against the Union forces. Eric’s website is: http://www.mosbymen.com/ should you like more information or to purchase one of his books.

The Banquet began with the acknowledgment of our military veterans, prayer, the singing of Dixie and The Bonnie Blue Flag followed by dinner with a cash bar for adult beverages. The weather was cold but the atmosphere in our banquet hall was warm and inviting with wonderful people enjoying each other’s company.
